My Chameleon are a four piece indie-folk band from Wellington. They love drinking tea and jamming in the afternoon in a sunny lounge in Newtown, creating warm, feel-good songs for lovers and friends. Let them wrap you in a colourful blanket cocoon while they layer charming harmonies over heartfelt lyrics, all set to whimsical tunes.
My Chameleon are Gemma Minogue (guitar, mahalo, banjo and vocals), David Yee (banjo, mandolin, glockenspiel, melodica, electric guitar, vocals), Jemma Irvine (ukulele, mandolin, percussion, vocals), and Kim Andrews (drums, percussion, glockenspiel, vocals). They have so far spread the love at gigs – including at Southern Cross and Meow – parties, and a book launch. They’ve also had a jam session featured on Radio New Zealand National.
You might think they sound a bit like Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens, Animal Collective, Feist, Bon Iver, Regina Spektor, Death Cab for Cutie, Fleet Foxes, First Aid Kit, Glass Volts, Fraser Ross and the Felt Tips, the Golden Awesome, and Iron & Wine.
Singing mostly original songs with a few covers thrown in, My Chameleon are so full of joy and delicious you’ll wish they were all made of ice cream so you could eat them up with a spoon.
