Read any good books lately? Itching to talk about them? Go on then! In this book club there’s no specific book you have to pretend to have read; we’re thinking more relaxed, informal discussion with like-minded readers about book... related... stuff. (and maybe a glass of wine or two). Sound good? Good!

The Southern Cross Book Club exists with a little help from our friends at Arty Bees Books. We meet on the second Monday of every month at 6 pm in the Lounge, first on the right as you arrive. If you can read this, you may as well join us.

Mighty Righteous is a charmingly funky unit from Wellington with an energetic, slick sound, who effortlessly blend modern funk, contemporary hooks and more. We offer catchy original music and a fresh take on Cover songs.

When was the last time you really let your hair down and lost yourself on the dancefloor? Getting everybody movin’ and shakin’ is what Mighty Righteous does on the regular as Southern Cross’ resident Friday night jams provider!

La Bête are a Wellington based gypsy jazz trio playing music inspired by Django Reinhardt. Featuring Mark Sommerville, Adrian Jensen and Daniel Yeabsley on guitars and upright bass. La Bête will be performing a set of early gypsy jazz repertoire as well as some original compositions.

Tonight you'll be treated to the first-ever New Zealand and more specifically Wellington-based 100% Cuban Trio featuring Roberto Rodriguez Boffil (La Isla de la Juventud), and our most recent arrival in the Capital Ernesto Zuñiga (Trinidad de Cuba) on their Cuban tres and guitarras, and Rafael Ferrer Noel (La Habana) on his Cuban congas.

Great to listen to, even better to dance too.

*The ensemble's name literally means "They are from Cuba"... It also means "Son (style of Cuban music from the 50s popularised by the Buena Vista Social Club) from Cuba”.
